| As a result of the storm in March 2008 when the Canal gates were lifted by the sea and damaged, remedial works have been done to help make the gates more secure to prevent a reoccurrance. The gates have been clad with timber to prevent a sea from lifting the gate/s by getting under the beams. The cladding presents a flat surface. Reinforced concrete supports for additional stress beams have been built. The anchors for a second set og storm chains have been built into the two piers. The extra chains will help to hold the gates steady and closed, and prevent the gates from flexing in storm conditions. |
